Environmental Religion and Dr. James Hansen Exposedcompiled by Lewis Loflin What do political activists and New Age nutcases that payed Dr. James Hansen $1 million have to say about him? Where does he get his prophecies from? To quote, "while acting as a messenger from the esoteric world of computer climate models to the public and policymakers alike." Google the term "esoteric" and to quote, "A type of hidden knowledge that is generally known only by a few individuals and not by the general public." We are talking religion here, not science. Al Gore in NYC written by Arthur Smith Friday, 26 May 2006 in regards to Dr. James Hansen: James Hansen of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies in Manhattan gave a short presentation: "I'm not speaking as a government employee" he started. He outline the inevitable warming consequences of the current state of things, and his view that we have one more decade of "business as usual" before we start to reach a point of irreversible changes, a "climate tipping point", that will take us beyond anything Earth has experienced since the first proto-humans evolved three million years ago. Noah's Ark??? So why is the movement of plants and animals northward bad? That's what happened in 11,000 BC after the ice age ended and the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys could support life again. But Hansen claims he is being "censored" for his views, but the fact is he isn't. When I went to You Tube I found 58 video clips on his public statements! When he speaks for himself and not as a NASA (thus federal) employee, nobody cares.
Ref. above here. By the way, this same James Hansen was predicting a new ice age in the 1970s and is not a climate scientist. His specialty is computer models, which all of his prophecies related to climate changes have been proven wrong.
Dr. Christy is quoted as saying, "I've often heard it said that there's a consensus of thousands of scientists on the global warming issue and that humans are causing a catastrophic change to the climate system. Well I am one scientist, and there are many that simply think that is not true." Former White House official defends editing of climate papersMarch 19, 2007 AP (extract) "Interference with communications of science to the public has been greater during the current administration than at any time in my career," said Hansen, who was one of the first to raise concerns about climate change in the 1980s. Hansen's battles with NASA and White House public affairs officials are not new and resulted in an easing of NASA's policies toward scientists talking to the media about their work. But that was not always the case. Hansen said that in 2005 he was told by a 24-year-old NASA public affairs official he could not take part in an interview with National Public Radio on orders from senior NASA public affairs officials. Instead, three other NASA officials were offered for the interview. The young press officer, George Deutsch, now 26, sat next to Hansen at the witness table Monday and told the committee he had simply been "relaying" the views of higher-ups at NASA that Hansen was not to participate in the interview. Rep. Darrell Issa, R - Calif., suggested that Hansen was not being muzzled at all and that there is nothing wrong with government scientists being subject to some limits in what they say. "You're speaking on federal paid time. Your employer happens to be the American taxpayer," Issa lectured Hansen. He said a Google search had shown Hansen cited on more than 1,400 occasions over a year in interviews and appearances.
Let's get some facts here: 1) Hansen is a Federal employee and he is using that position to further a political agenda. Just as I have obligations to my employer not to disclose aspects of the company business without permission, that applies to Hansen as well. He is abusing his NASA title and is not a spokesman for NASA. 2) Hansen is not a climate or earth scientist, he has physics and astronomy degrees and does computer modeling. It was his computer models in 1971 that predicted the discredited ice age hysteria of that time. 3) He is a paid political hack for John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Foundation that paid him $270,000 for his activism. To quote: "Dr. James Hansen receives the Heinz Award in the Environment for his exemplary leadership in the critical and often-contentious debate over the threat of global climate change. The theory that industrial pollution continues to create an atmospheric "greenhouse effect" or warming has pitted scientist against scientist and politician against politician..." In other words even by their admission this entire "theory" (in fact hypothesis because it has never been tested or proven) is under dispute among scientists. Where does Hansen get his "theory?" To quote Heinz, "while acting as a messenger from the esoteric world of computer climate models to the public and policymakers alike."
4) Hansen is a paid hack of Al Gore and helped him with his propaganda film An Inconvenient Truth. UPDATES SINCE RECEIVING THE HEINZ AWARD March 2006 - "Hansen appears on a 60 Minutes special entitled "Rewriting the Science". The special reports that the ice flow into the Atlantic ocean "has nearly doubled over the last five years." Hansen continues to speak out on global warming despite attempts by NASA's public affairs office to restrict his comments." Yes he is rewriting science because to quote in December 2003 - "Hansen publishes a report paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Note he claims 2005 is the hottest year on record, it wasn't. See 20th century not warmest, researchers find September 2002 - "Hansen leads a study at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies which concluded that continued global warming will occur to the extent that "global temperature should rise by about 3 degrees Fahrenheit in the next 50 years." - Newsday" He has a computer model and no proof and I don't deal in "esoteric" religion. Update for 2008: See Year of global cooling panics global warming prophets and is not expect to rise until 2015! That wasn't supposed to happen. Guess we will have to revise they 50 year computer model prophecy.
The 'Old' Consensus?INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY 9/21/2007 : Climate Change: Did NASA scientist James Hansen, the global warming alarmist in chief, once believe we were headed for...an ice age? An old Washington Post story indicates he did. On July 9, 1971, the Post published a story headlined "U.S. Scientist Sees New Ice Age Coming." It told of a prediction by NASA and Columbia University scientist S.I. Rasool. The culprit: man's use of fossil fuels...the Post reported, was a "computer program developed by Dr. James Hansen," who was, according to his resume, a Columbia University research associate at the time...
Hansen has some explaining to do. The public deserves to know how he was converted from an apparent believer in a coming ice age who had no worries about greenhouse gas emissions to a global warming fear monger...But what about political hypocrisy? It's clear that Hansen is as much a political animal as he is a scientist. Did he switch from one approaching cataclysm to another because he thought it would be easier to sell to the public? Was it a career advancement move or an honest change of heart on science, based on empirical evidence? If Hansen wants to change positions again, the time is now. With NASA having recently revised historical temperature data that Hansen himself compiled, the door has been opened for him to embrace the ice age projections of the early 1970s. Ref. here. The Soros Threat To DemocracyINVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY 9/24/2007 : How many people, for instance, know that James Hansen, a man billed as a lonely "NASA whistleblower" standing up to the mighty U.S. government, was really funded by Soros' Open Society Institute , which gave him "legal and media advice"? That's right, Hansen was packaged for the media by Soros' flagship "philanthropy," by as much as $720,000, most likely under the OSI's "politicization of science" program.
Questions about Hansen's DataNASA's primary climate monitoring agency is the Goddard Institute of Space Studies. Operating out of a small office at Columbia University, GISS is run by Dr. James Hansen. Official NASA climate statements come through GISS ... which means they must get by Hansen. Many other scientists and agencies make climate predictions, but Hansen's top the list for scare factor, predicting consequences considerably more dire than his colleagues.
Most research papers are rather dry reading, written to be as unemotional as possible. Not so with Hansen's reports, whose works scream alarmism even in their titles: "Climate Catastrophe," "Can We Defuse the Global Warming Time Bomb," and "The Threat to the Planet." Hansen was most recently in the news when an amateur blogger discovered an error in his climate data, a mistake Hansen later discounted as unimportant to the "big picture" of compelling public action on climate change... After the GISS data error was revealed, Hansen finally agreed to make public the method he uses to generate "official" temperature records from the actual readings. That process has been revealed to be thousands of lines of source code, containing hundreds of arbitrary "bias" adjustments to individual sites, tossing out many readings entirely, and raising (or lowering) the actual values for others, sometimes by several degrees. Many areas with weak or no rising temperature trends are therefore given, after adjustment, a much sharper trend. A full audit of the Hansen code is currently underway, but it seems clear that Hansen has more explaining to do. George Deutsch, the NASA intern who resigned over the censorship fallout, said he was initially warned about Hansen when starting the job, "People said ... you gotta watch that guy. He is a loose cannon; he is kind of crazy. He is difficult to work with; he is an alarmist; he exaggerates.'" Hansen's office did not return a request from DailyTech for an interview for this article. Update: Hansen has denied receiving direct funding from OSI. Investors Business Daily is standing behind the story, claiming the funding first passed through the Government Accountability Project, which then used it to package Hansen for the media. Ref. here.
