We're wrong to ‘impose’ Western values on Muslim societies?

By Rachel Raskin-Zrihen

The next time someone asks what makes us Americans think our way is so much better than the Islamist ideology we're fighting, you may want to mention the following items from the Associated Press Dec. 28:

From Moscow, Maria Danilova reported the Russian commission investigating the Beslan school siege last year said local law enforcement officials negligently ignored instructions to strengthen school security before Islamists seized 1,128 pupils, teachers and parents, provoking a three-day standoff ending the deaths of 331 people, 186 of them children.

This incident is just one among way too many illustrating something is seriously wrong with an ideology in which the concept of intentionally attacking children is justifiable. But it's apparently a highly recommended tactic in the Islamo-fascist handbook, since it's been used frequently by these guys' compatriots in "Palestine," where they also have other problems.

Having systematically poisoned their population with violent hatred for generations, Palestinian leaders attempting to rein in the violence in advance of first-time statehood are finding that like Dr. Frankenstein losing control of his creation, they are fighting Arafat's Monster. This day, Sarah El Deeb reported dozens of masked Palestinian gunmen shot their way into Gaza Strip election offices demanding spaces on a parliamentary election candidate's list and jobs in the Palestinian security forces.

That same day three British citizens were kidnapped at the Rafah crossing from Egypt into Gaza in what was described as another blow to efforts by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to restore order to the chaotic territory since Israel's summer pullout. And following increased post-pullout rocket fire from Gaza into Israel, the Israelis that day began enforcing a "no-go zone," where any Palestinian coming near the border will be shot.

The day also saw a Lebanon-based Palestinian terror group firing rockets into the Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona, to which Israeli jets later responded. And lest you think the trouble with the Islamists' lifestyle only manifests in its fights against non-Muslims, Dec. 28 saw Pakistani Muslim Nazir Ahmed unrepentant the day after slitting the throats of his three young daughters and their 25-year-old stepsister to "salvage his family's honor," as reported by Khalid Tanveer. The report says hundreds of girls and women are murdered by male relatives annually in that conservative Islamic nation, and few of the perpetrators are seriously punished.

Ahmed's killing spree – the latest of more than 260 such killings documented in 2005 – was witnessed by his wife as she held their 3 month-old son. Ahmed put his hand over his stepdaughter's mouth and cut her throat with a machete, then killed the three girls, ages 8, 7, and 4. He reportedly said he believed the older girl had committed adultery and that the children had to die to prevent their growing up to do the same.

The report said reforms of outdated Islamized laws have been slow in coming, making it difficult to get convictions in rape, acid attacks and other cases of violence against women. Police are often reportedly reluctant to prosecute such crimes, regarding them as family disputes.

And when they're not attacking schools, buses and malls, or murdering women and girls, some Islamists keep themselves busy kidnapping tourists, as reported by Ahmed Al-Haj from Yemen. There, also Dec. 28, armed men kidnapped a German family to press the government for the release of jailed fellow tribe members.

Two Austrians were kidnapped there a week before and two Swiss tourists were kidnapped in the same area a month earlier. So, the next time someone tells me we have no right to impose our way of thinking on these nations whose citizens are happy with their own systems, I plan to suggest they ask Ahmed's daughters how they feel about it. Oh, that's right, they can't.
