Georgia Resident Sentenced in Chattanooga to Greeneville Cocaine and Crack Cocaine Trafficking Case

November 8, 2011 Department of Justice

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Gary Moore, 47, of Dalton, Georgia, was sentenced to serve 188 months in prison today in U.S. District Court, Greeneville, by the Honorable R. Leon Jordan, U.S. District Judge, for his participation in a cocaine and crack cocaine trafficking conspiracy operating in Chattanooga and Greeneville, Tenn. Under the federal guidelines, Moore was sentenced as a career offender based upon his three prior felony drug convictions.

The evidence in the case showed that Moore and other co-conspirators obtained significant quantities of cocaine and crack cocaine from co-defendant Michael Morris and others in the Chattanooga area and transported them to Greeneville, Tenn. While in Greeneville, Moore and other co-conspirators distributed the cocaine and crack cocaine to customers in the Greeneville area until it was time to return to Chattanooga, obtain more product and start over again. Michael Morris was previously sentenced to 240 months in prison by Judge Jordan. Moore was the final defendant in this case to be sentenced.

The indictment and subsequent convictions are the result of a multi-agency investigation involving the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), Third Judicial District Drug Task Force, Chattanooga Police Department and Hamblen County Sheriff's Office. Assistant United States Attorney Wayne Taylor has represented the United States throughout the case.

"I am extremely proud of the cooperative efforts of the investigators from the numerous law enforcement agencies led by the TBI for their hard work that has resulted in the conviction of this defendant and his co-conspirators. I believe it sends a powerful message to others who are considering selling drugs in the Eastern District of Tennessee, especially for those with a prior drug record" said U.S. Attorney Bill Killian.
