Wilmington NC June 21, 2012: 60-year-old Chinese immigrant Zhen Bo Liu was murdered for $48 worth of fried rice. Shot in the foot by a 15-year-old, he then got a bullet in the head. The gang of six, ages 15 to 20, are all young black males.

Wilmington police have charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery Cornell Dwayne Haugabook Jr., 20, and Mustafaa Friend, 15. The other four, Manije Daneek Johnson-Martin, 16, Rasheed Ramone Thompson, 16, Nathaniel Lawrence, 16, and Marvin Lee White, 18, face one count of conspiracy to commit robbery.

The gang placed an order with China King restaurant and lured the victim to the ambush site around 9:30 p.m. Mustafaa Friend shot Liu in the foot and then Haugabook shot him in the face, killing him according to police. The thugs brought the food to a nearby house where all six enjoyed their meal, then went back after dinner and searched the vehicle with Mr. Liu laying there in a pool of blood.

The press reports White, Martin and Thompson all fingered Haugabook and Friend as the shooters. Friend being a minor won't face the death penalty, but could get life without parole, while Haugabook faces the death penalty. Haugabook's mother Nadine Milton was in tears. He was the only one with a serious criminal record from Florida where he spent three years in prison for burglary and grand theft, and was on probation during this alleged killing.

To quote, "None of the other defendants have serious criminal histories in North Carolina except White, who has previously been charged with firing a semi-automatic handgun in the city limits, breaking into a house on South 8th Street, and possessing a stolen moped." There are also questions about gang affiliation.
